(Team Media Release)

Local Victorian based team, Pedders Racing, has today confirmed Australian movie and television star Shane Jacobson will take the driver’s seat at the iconic Mount Panorama circuit when the team’s Toyota 86 makes it racing debut at the Bathurst Motor Festival this Easter weekend.

Jacobson, best known for his film role as ‘Kenny’ along with hosting duties on Top Gear Australia, is a keen fan of all forms of motorsport and has had experience at the wheel during the Rally Calder in the Australian Rally Championship last year, so will be a welcome addition to the Toyota 86 line-up, with Pedders Racing’s Team Principal Grant Phillips explaining,

“We are very excited to have Shane join our team for our opening event in 2013, and there’s no better place for it to be than Bathurst.

“Shane has proven himself to be a versatile driver with an enthusiastic personality, and will bring another level of excitement to the team, both on and off of the track.

“He is a great bloke with a genuine passion for racing and it will be an absolute pleasure to welcome him into our team.”

Pedders Racing will debut their Toyota 86 during the Easter event, ahead of a campaign in the Australian Manufacturers Championship, so whilst not a championship event for the team, it’s an ideal race meeting to shake down and finalise preparations for the season ahead as their Toyota 86 becomes the world’s first to enter a national championship, giving additional excitement to Jacobson who said,

“This weekend I’m going to get to do my three favourite things; race at Bathurst, eat because I believe it’s catered for, and drive at Bathurst!

“The Pedders Racing team have put so much time and effort into putting this new car together, being the first to put a Toyota 86 out there, so it’s going to be a great weekend to be involved and have a lot of fun at the Mountain.”

Freak Motorsport Fabrications have turned the humble street car into a masterpiece of race engineering, from the safety cage that will also allow the car to meet tarmac racing requirements, to fuel cell fabrication including the dry brake refuelling, Freak Motorsport Fabrications have provided the local crew with a world class product that will see the team represent the Pedders Suspension and Bosch brands throughout the season, and they’re confident it will be a strong season, Phillips saying,

“We wanted to present the car to the motor racing community at the highest quality, and to justify the faith that Toyota Australia have put in us to represent their brand on the race track.

“I can categorically say that what we will be delivering at Bathurst will be one of the most exciting examples of a Toyota 86 that anyone has built in Australia.

“The preparations have been lengthy, and now we’re ready to go out, learn the car and enjoy the amazing experience of racing at Australia’s most iconic race track.”

Support has been promising, with Bosch having supplied the Toyota 86 with world class technology from the plugs, leads and tools, ensuring that not only will the car look good, but it will be a reliable package. AMG Australia and Oz Racing Wheels will help to put the power of the 2 litre boxer engine, that will be well lubricated by Valvoline Oils, to the ground. Pedders Suspension and Whiteline Flat Out have worked together to provide the best quality suspension products, an absolute must in the world of motor racing.
