GWRs B6HR RACE FOR A CURE
Kavich brothers raise valuable funding and awareness for breast cancerThe world-famous Mount Panorama circuit might be the Holy Grail of Australian motorsport, but for brothers Ben and Michael Kavich, this weekend’s Bathurst 6 Hour has an even more special significance.For the third year, the Kavich’s B6HR entry will be themed as “Race for a Cure”, an initiative designed to generate funding and exposure for life-saving research conducted by the Breast Cancer Trials charity organisation.Multiple members of the Kavich family have been affected by breast cancer; Michael and Ben’s mother and grandmother suffered from the disease, while Ben’s wife Toula was diagnosed just after the 2016 edition of the 6 Hour.According to Ben Kavich, the Race for a Cure concept was an ideal platform to make a positive contribution to breast cancer research through their passion for motor racing.”We started the Race for a Cure program in 2017, and for each of the last two years we have received very generous support from our business suppliers, family and friends – we’ve been able to raise around $70,000,” Ben said.”This year, we’re reaching out to the wider community – we’ve set up a website to receive donations, and donors will have their name printed on the race car.”This weekend is all about rewarding the individuals and businesses who have contributed to the cause – we’re aiming to raise $40,000 in total, and all the signage on the car is to recognise those who have donated.”For this year’s 6 Hour, the Kavich brothers will be joined in their GWR Australia-prepared Mitsubishi Evo X by Garth Walden. Ben Kavich said some strong pre-event preparations have boosted their confidence.”Last year we were running as high as third before we had a mechanical drama in the last stint,” Ben said.”Over the last 12 months, thanks to GWR’s input, the car has been developed into a fast and reliable package, and having three experienced drivers on board is definitely an advantage.”We’ve had some productive test days, and we’ve gained some good information about the new MRF control tyres, so hopefully we can achieve an outright top five result, and reward all those who have supported our cause.”Donations to the Race for a Cure program can be made through www.raceforacure.org.au.
