Sherrin team aiming to maintain impeccable 6 Hour record

Iain Sherrin says that if his team can take victory in this year’s Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour, it will be their greatest achievement.

Despite the uncertainty due to the COVID-19 situation, a bumper field of cars and stars are set to line up for the race, and Sherrin says that scoring a win against the standard field that has committed to the November race would be a highlight.

“The quality of the cars and drivers that are coming into this year’s race is second-to-none. We’ve never seen a grid so big, and we’ve never seen such depth in driver talent,” said Sherrin.

“Looking at the entry list, it’s very impressive. New cars like Mustangs will really add to the competitiveness, and the list of drivers is very strong.

“To go there and win it this year, against some quality outfits, would easily make it a career highlight.”

The Sherrin Rentals team has an exceptional record in Australia’s production car classic, having finished second in 2016, victory in 2018 and second place last year.

Sherrin hopes that himself and his brother Grant, driving their ever-reliable BMW M4, will continuing their incredible podium streak.

“We have been on the podium all but one year-end and we’re trying to be the first team to win the event twice,” he said.

“For us, it’s the pinnacle for production car racing, and it’s everything that we work towards during the year.

“We have a couple of national championships under our belt, but Bathurst is always the pinnacle of what we do.

“To do well there, it takes a huge team effort. You can’t win the race on your own. The team has to be good, the car has to be good and the drivers have to be good.

“When you put it all together and get a result, particularly a win at Bathurst, there’s no better feeling.”

The Queensland-based squad has recently moved into a new facility, right, where the BMW is being readied for the November race.

With the extra time granted to them due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, he says that they could not be any better prepared.

“Despite the challenges, we are pressing on as though the event is happening,” he said.

“We understand the challengers that the Australian Racing Group is facing during this time, and the fate of the race is not really in their hands, however, we know that if it can happen, it will happen, and we all have our fingers crossed that we will be there.

“The TV package for the race meeting is second to none, the competition is going to be fierce and it will be great to, simply, get back out and race. I can’t wait for it.”

The Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour will be one of the highlight races of the inaugural Bathurst International, to be held at the famous Mount Panorama circuit on November 12-15.
