Grant Denyer confirms 6 Hour drive in Quinn Mustang
Grant Denyer will co-drive with Tony Quinn in the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour this November, driving a brand-new Ford Mustang.
Having contested the Bathurst 1000 and the Bathurst 12 Hour, it will be the former Gold Logie winning TV star’s debut in the 6 Hour production car event around the famous Mount Panorama.
Denyer will suit up with motorsport veteran Tony Quinn in one of the four brand-new Ford FN Mustangs, built by renowned race car constructor Ryan McLeod.
Travel restrictions may prevent Denyer from testing the car prior to the 6 Hour race, to be held as part of the new Bathurst International event on November 12-15, however, the accomplished 42-year-old is looking forward to getting back behind the wheel.
“If there’s only going to be one race this year for me, you’d want it to be at somewhere spectacular,” Denyer said.
“So, pounding the pavement around Mount Panorama for 6 Hours in a Mustang sounds like possibly the only good thing to happen in 2020.”
Denyer says that competing in an endurance race, in what is largely a road going car, is one of the exciting challenges.
“The cool thing is that the 6 Hour is a production car race and a different mentality and a different challenge to steer a car around there, with the aim to get the car to the finish line,” he said.
“There’s the element of driving fast and beating a fellow competitor, but yet still nursing machinery and having level of mechanical sympathy that is on point to ensure you are there at the end.
“There are no guarantees that you’ll be there at the end, so you need to give yourself the best chance.”
Despite the frustrations of the COVID-19 pandemic, a large field of production cars are scheduled to line up, with over 55 entries confirmed for the event that will be broadcast live and free on the screens of Seven.
