Massive field assembling for Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour

A twelve-month delay has not stopped Production Car competitors committing in force to the 2021 Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour endurance race, to be held this Easter (2-4 April) at Mount Panorama.

51 entries have already been received and confirmed by event organisers Australian Racing Group, with a further 12 having confirmed their intention to compete pending completion of the entry process.

More cars beyond those are expected prior to the March 6 deadline, when entries officially close, to push the grid to potentially record-breaking numbers.

A record 68 entries had been received for the 2020 Bathurst 6 Hour prior to its initial postponement and ultimate cancellation of the event due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic.

Despite the lengthy delay, another massive field is assured for the 2021 event with organisers confident of eclipsing the 64-car record that stands as the largest ever grid for a long-distance race at Mount Panorama.

Confirmed entrants for the 2021 race include the teams to have won the two most recent Bathurst 6 Hour races.

Beric Lynton and Tim Leahey led all the way in their BMW M3 Competition to claim the 2019 race, while the similar BMW M4 of Queensland brothers Grant and Iain Sherrin narrowly claimed the 2018 race in a tense Bathurst finish.

The German marque, yet to be beaten for outright victory in the 6-Hour, will likely face a challenge from the Blue Oval this year thanks to the entry of four brand-new Ford Mustangs.

The Mustang was due to make its Bathurst Production Car debut in 2020 – having only recently been added to the event’s eligibility list – however four such examples have been confirmed to participate in 2021.

Other entries currently confirmed include representation in every class available to competitors, from the Class X Extreme Performance outright contenders to the affordable hatchbacks in the entry-level Class E.

12 different brands and more than 20 different models are already represented on the entry list.

The 2021 Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour will see a bumper long weekend of action at Mount Panorama, the six-hour race for Production Cars set to headline a massive on-track program across the Easter weekend.

As well as the Mount Panorama debut of the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series, the event will also see the Fanatec GT World Challenge powered by AWS, National Trans Am Series and the Radical Australia Cup all racing for championship points.

Supports from the MRF Bathurst Excel Challenge and the New South Wales Historic Touring Cars will complete a massive on-track program.

The 2021 Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour will be broadcast live and free on the screens of Seven across the Easter long weekend.

QUOTES: Ken Collier, Event Director

“The reaction from the competitors to the 2021 Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour has been outstanding,” said Ken Collier, Bathurst 6 Hour Event Director.

“25 entrants rolled over their existing entry towards the 2021 race the moment it was confirmed that 2020 would not go ahead, while another 30 existing entrants have already re-entered, or confirmed that they will be back on the grid alongside several new entrants.

“That level of support for the event despite the challenges of the last twelve months has been incredible and has helped us to push the race forward to a new level.

“We have also seen new teams, drivers and vehicles being prepared for their debut this year which shows how important and significant this race is for the Production Car community.

“We are confident that both the size and also the quality of the 2021 grid will be the best the Bathurst 6 Hour has ever seen and, coupled with a huge on-track program that includes TCR Australia, GT World Challenge Australia and Trans Am, will make this a weekend to remember at Mount Panorama.”
