‘Homegrown’ heroes ready to take on Euros in B6HR
Ready to take on the euros in the 2021 Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour, the lone WAKE UP HSV GTS competing in class X (Ultimate Performance) has all it needs thanks to the three homegrown heroes behind the wheel.
The heaviest car across 62-car field, the mighty HSV GTS will be steered by John Bowe, Barry Sternbeck and Tony Virag – each bringing extensive experience in Production Car racing to the table.

Touring car legend and Tasmanian John Bowe is no stranger to the Mountain, and will look to become just the second driver ever to win the ‘Bathurst Triple Crown’ of 6, 12 and 1000km endurance races.
Experienced racer, Sydneysider Tony Virag, has raced Production Cars for the last twenty years up and down the eastern seaboard of Australia.
With a consistent driving style, Virag collected Class wins and solid outright performance with co-drivers Jeremy Grey / Warren Millet and Joe Krinelos / Brett Howard in the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour in 2016 and 2018, respectively.
Always flying the flag for the red army, Virag’s passion for all things Holden and Chev stems way back.
“We’re officially re-naming HSV to ‘Home Grown Special Vehicles’ in honour of the 12 homegrown Aussie cars represented the field of 62 entrants,” Virag said.
He was confident that his co-pilots would also be up to the task.
“With close to 1200 race starts and 252 race wins under his belt, we are in for some exciting racing when JB is back in the driver’s seat at one of his favourite race tracks.
“Having recently completed treatment for prostate cancer, JB said he can’t wait to see you all and be back racing at the magic, Mt Panorama.
“Barry Sternbeck’s wicked sense of humour will have Garage 32 roaring with laughter and teamed with his laser focus on track; Team Virag Racing may just be one to watch.” Virag added.
Barry Sternbeck, born and bred on the Central Coast of NSW, has raced 125 Midgets to Mini’s and GT cars since the ’90s.
Returning to his first love of Production Car racing, Sternbeck’s recent wins have come in State and National Improved and Production Touring categories.
The 2021 Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour will be broadcast live and free on the screens of Seven across the April 3-4 weekend.
