Ben Walsh joins crowd-pleasing Levitt Motorsport C63 AMG

The big Merc is back at the 2022 Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour.

Experienced campaigner and current Superutes driver Ben Walsh joins the Levitt Motorsport team as the third driver, alongside team owner Tony Levitt and Jason Simes (who is returning for his third 6 hour) in arguably everyone’s favourite car, the raucous 6.3 litre V8 Mercedes C63 AMG.

This is the same car that won Class A2 at the 2018 event, albeit in the pre-Mustang era.

However despite the addition of the Mustangs last year the C63 AMG ran as high as 6th outright at the halfway point of the 2021 race having completed half the required pitstops.

“Our strategy was playing out perfectly last year and we were very well placed for a strong result sitting on the lead lap of the race, sixth outright, and second in Class A2 when we were unfortunately tagged in the rear coming through the chase. We lost a number of laps repairing the car so it was a really unfortunate way to finish our 2021 campaign,” team owner Tony Levitt said.

“For 2022 we have developed the car further which should see us extracting quite a bit more speed, and we have bought Ben Walsh into the team who is an extremely fast competitor and is second to none in terms of car set-up feedback.

“Its also Walsh’s lucky 13th Bathurst event so there’s not many drivers out there with that level of experience around the mountain.”

The team once again has experienced campaigner Cam Wilson on board as race engineer and strategist, and Porsche Carrera Cup star Harri Jones joins the team as data engineer and driving coach.

Main sponsor Power Torque Engines, headed up by former top level competitor Mark McLaughlin, has been working hard in the background preparing the engine for this years big event.

The event will be broadcast live, ad-break free and on demand on Stan Sports on April 16-17.
