CONSISTENCY KEY FOR SIX HOUR QUIET ACHIEVER

The Harding Performance Volkswagen Golf R steered in A1 by Cem Yucel and Iain Salteri was a quiet achiever at the 2021 Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour with a very tidy 11th outright and 4th in class result, despite not having the big power of other entries at its disposal.

Now Yucel and Salteri are back for the 2022 instalment and with a number of Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hours now under their belts, are hoping consistency will be their key to success this Easter.

“It would be great to get on the podium for our class,” Yucel said.

“We have done a few of these now, so we sort of have it down pat as far as what we need to do.

“It is just the best track ever, the best track in the world in my opinion. It is so much fun to drive so we just keep on coming back.

“I think we have probably pulled the max out of the car power wise, and we did get a bit lucky last year with some lead cars falling off a bit, but we will still definitely be putting our full efforts in to do the best we can of course.

“Eibach Suspension have jumped on board, so we have done a suspension upgrade since last year and Harding Performance are still our major sponsor and have also thrown a bunch of new parts into the car as well.

“(As far as driving style) we won’t be doing anything different to what we have in previous years and instead will be concentrating as always on being consistent as consistency is key in endurance racing.

“We are the least powerful car in our class so that is certainly a challenge, probably our biggest challenge, but our strength is the car’s consistency – we have it set up so it is very easy to drive, and it can do the same lap time from lap one to the last lap, which is no small thing.

“It is going to be interesting having 70 cars on the grid. I think there are going to be quite a few safety cars throughout the day and lots of traffic to contend with, so it is going to be quite interesting out there.” Event tickets are available online via the official event website by clicking here.

The event will be broadcast live, ad-break free and on demand on Stan Sports on April 16-17.
