NEW LEXUS TO TAKE ON THE MUSTANGS THIS EASTER
Amid the 70-strong Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour field at Mount Panorama this Easter will be the new #48 ASAP Marketing Lexus R CF.
The newcomer will be driven in the A2 class by production car regulars Keith Bensley and Scott Gore alongside gun driver, Steve Owen.
“This is the fifth or sixth Bathurst 6 Hour for the team, previously running a BMW 135i in B1,” ASAP Marketing Team Manager, Rhys Dadd, said.
“The RCF has been an on and off build for around four years now. At the start, as is standard in production car building, we ran into some issues so that sort of saw it put on the backburner. But in the last 12-18 months we have put some effort into it, and it will be ready for this year.
“We have had a little bit of testing, and all has gone well; we are looking forward to the event and seeing how we go.
“I definitely think it is going to be up there with the Mustangs. We are expecting to be relatively competitive, and the top speed is definitely going to be up there.
“It is a little bit bigger and a little bit heavier than the Mustangs so we will have to see how it goes in and out of the corners, but it is definitely going to be quick down Conrod!
“Our main objective this year is just to get there and finish. But it will definitely be there or thereabouts, and come next year we will be looking to try and be a bit further up there.
“We come to this event to have a good time and we have been ending up with good results, so this year it will be head down, have a good time, and hopefully it goes well, and we finish.”
Supercars gun Steve Owen will be the third driver for the team, with Dadd saying the team will benefit from his perspective.
“We had a test day a couple of weeks ago at Morgan Park and we had originally contacted Steve to come out and give us a bit of a hand setting the car up,” Dadd explained.
“So, he came out to Morgan Park and ended up having a good day and loved the car, so we asked if he wanted to come down and be the third driver!
“He is obviously a gun driver, but also the experience that comes with him will be good for us.”
