Super2 Race Winner Completes GWR B6HR Line-up
GWR Australia has confirmed the driver line-up for its third entry in this weekend’s Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour, with Super2 race winner Tyler Everingham to join team owner Garth Walden and the experienced Michael Auld in the team’s Mercedes A45 AMG.
Walden and Auld have plenty of experience at the Holy Grail of Australian motorsport, having achieved class wins together in the production car era of the Bathurst 12 Hour in the late 2000s.
But while Everingham is best known for his recent Super2 exploits, he has also amassed numerous Mountain miles in a variety of vehicles: a Bathurst 1000 start in 2020, a 12 Hour appearance in 2018 (in a MARC car) and a pair of 6 Hour starts in 2017 and ’18 aboard an Osborne Motorsport Renault Megane.
“Last time I raced at the Bathurst 6 Hour, it was in one of the slower classes, so I was constantly looking in my mirrors,” Everingham said.
“I’m really looking forward to racing in Class A1 this weekend and competing for an outright podium; I’ll be able to attack the race a lot harder than when I was in Class C.
“Michael and Garth are both very experienced and fast in the Mercedes, so the three of us should be a strong combination.”
Walden will be a busy man this weekend; as well as slotting into the driver’s seat himself, his GWR Australia squad will be overseeing operations for not just his car, but the Ben/Michael Kavich BMW M2 Competition and the Michael Sheargold/Dylan O’Keeffe/Ollie Shannon Mercedes A45 AMG.
“The 6 Hour is always a big weekend for our team, but fortunately we have all the personnel in place to ensure I can focus on the driving aspect,” Walden said.
“Michael and I have been friends for a long time and always enjoy driving together, and Tyler will be a valuable addition to our team – he’s very fast, he has done a lot of laps around the Mountain and having the extra driver gives us a bit more strategic flexibility when it comes to managing pit stop and minimum/maximum driving times.”
Practice for the Bathurst 6 Hour gets underway on Friday.
