Late change for defending champions as Hill replaces Crick

FORMER Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour winner Cameron Hill has been drafted as a late replacement for Cameron Crick in the Bathurst-winning DA Campbell Transport Racing BMW M2 Competition this weekend.

Hill, who with Thomas Sargent won the race in 2022, will fill in alongside car owner Dean Campbell after Crick came down with an illness on Thursday.

The decision for Crick to step aside was made jointly between Cameron and the team late last night, with the best interests of the 2026 campaign foremost in Crick’s mind.

“While it’s extremely disappointing to not be able to defend the crown, I believe I’ve made the correct decision for the team,” Crick said.

Hill is logical replacement given his circuit, car and race experience as the Bathurst-based squad seeks to defend their historic 2025 win.

The Brad Jones Racing Toyota GR Supra racer arrived at the circuit from Canberra early this morning, having been at BJR for a Taupo Supercars event pre-brief yesterday.

“We’re obviously disappointed for Cam because he’s been such a part of this team and we’re really good mates – but sometimes these things happen,” Dean Campbell said.

“We’re fortunate that Cam Hill was available and isn’t far away from Bathurst so could get here in time to compete. He, Cricky and I are great mates so it’s all worked out.

“His track record here, and in the sport in general, is brilliant so there’s no concerns with him having the ability to jump in and be on the pace from lap one and help us achieve another good result at our home race.”

The remainder of the 69-car grid list remains unchanged with all cars on site ahead of the first practice session this morning.

Cars will be on track for three sessions today; Practice one split between the categories with Classes B, C, D and E on track first, followed by the quicker cars in the Ultimate (class X) and Extreme Performance (Class A1, A2) categories.

Two all-in sessions then follow later in the afternoon.
