Norwell Motorplex supports inaugural Pole Award
Norwell Motorplex, Australia’s largest advanced driver training facility, has raised the stakes for this weekend’s Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour by facilitating the event’s inaugural Pole Award.
Norwell Motorplex will be the presenting partner of Saturday’s 40-minute qualifying session for the 6 Hour, with the session to be officially named Norwell Motorplex Qualifying.
Additionally, Norwell Motorplex has provided a financial incentive for competitors, with the fastest outright qualifier to win $1,000.
Established in 1990 by the late Frank Gardner and two-time Bathurst 1000 winner Tony Longhurst as the BMW Performance Driving Centre, Norwell Motorplex has been owned by multiple Bathurst endurance race winner, Paul Morris, for almost three decades.
Located within 40 minutes either side of central Brisbane and the Gold Coast, Norwell’s facilities include a purpose-built 2.1km driver training circuit, 4×4 track, motorkhana track, skid pan, mechanical turntable and a state-of-the-art conferencing and events space.
It offers the popular, official Supercars Driving Experience to public and corporate groups, and driver training ranging from defensive courses for teenage drivers through to race driver development programs which are regarded as world’s best practice and utilised by elite talent in the Supercars Championship and high-level motorsport.
Many competitors in the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour have benefited from driver coaching at Norwell Motorplex.
Morris, winner of the 2017 race and one of only two drivers to have won all three current major Bathurst endurance events (1000, 12 Hour and 6 Hour), is also competing in the 6 Hour for the first time since 2021, when he won Class A2 driving with George Miedecke and Brodie Kostecki.
Norwell Motorplex Qualifying takes place from 1:45pm-2:35pm on Easter Saturday, and will be televised live across Australia on SBS’ main free-to-air channel, Fox Sports 506 and Kayo Sports.
