Former winners lock the top three in second B6HR session

BERIC LYNTON, Tim Leahey and Will Davison have topped the second practice session at the Hi-Tec Bathurst 6 Hour.

Davison posted a session-best 2m22.95s flyer early on in a one-hour hit-out interrupted by several brief red flag periods as the full, 69-car field took to the track for the first time together.

Car 23 ended the session four-tenths quicker than fellow former winners, Simon Hodges and Jayden Ojeda, with Cam Hill putting last year’s winning BMW third just fractions behind.

Zach Bates continued the strong form from the Cachet Homes Camaro by placing his car fourth late in the session to top the A2 class for the second time today.

An impressive fifth was the BMW M3 of Zaki Wazir, Tom Shaw and Bathurst veteran Ric Shaw, while the Tyler Cheney / Ryan MacMillan and Tim Brooke Mustang was sixth outright and second in class A2 – just in front of the #18 entry driven by Cooper Barnes, Bryce Fullwood and Trent Whyte.

Tyler Everingham, Michael and Hayden Auld were next in their rebuilt M3 in a strong bounce back so far following their early exit last year, while Jason Gomersall, Ben Gomersall and Aaron Seton were ninth in their Mustang.

Rounding out the top-10 outright was the practice one pace-setting Bimmer of Ben and Michael Kavich and Tom Randle.

Eleventh outright and quickest of the class B1 brigade was the Team Buccini BMW of Courtney Prince, Tabitha Ambrose and Karlie Buccini, while the Waltec Motorsport BMW driven by Cameron Lewis, Cody Gillis and Leon Cordato topped the A1 class and ended the session 13th.

16th outright and quickest in the B2 class was the Randall Racing BMW steered by Peter Laqrence, Lachlan Mineeff and Drew Russell.

James and Trevor Keene’s VW Golf led the way in Class C while Hayden Jackson, Grant Bray and Matthew Totani led the way in a competitive Class D fight in their Maisie Place Motorsport Mazda RX8. Greg Boyle and Brett Stevens again led the way in Class E.

Three of the 69 car field failed to complete a lap in the second session, including the Brown-Davis Racing Ford Focus RS and the Lindsey Kearns and Brad Carr Mustang – the latter with driveline issues.

Gearbox problems stopped the Osborn’s Transport B2 contending BMW from also completing a lap today.

One 60-minute session remains today for the full field to complete their running on Friday, with that set to commence at 5:00pm this afternoon.
