Super TT Attracts Massive Field for Mountain Debut

The Oztrack Super TT Series has attracted a massive 52-car field for its first appearance on the hallowed turf of Mount Panorama, where it will appear as a supporting act for the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour this weekend.

Since it began at Wakefield Park in 2006, Super TT (Super Tin Tops) has been renowned for the diversity of cars and drivers it has attracted, and the Bathurst meeting will be no exception. The field consists of front-wheel-drive, rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive vehicles with anywhere between four and eight cylinders in a variety of naturally-aspirated and forced induction configurations, and drivers ranging from 18 to 82 years old.

To level the playing field between such a widespread array of machinery, entrants have been divided into five classes.

Entrants expected to be competing for outright honours will race in the Fastrack Experiences ExtremeTT class; Motorsport Australia’s eligibility criteria has recently expanded to allow TCR cars to compete in this class and there will be three of them on the grid this weekend: brothers Will and Brad Harris in their Honda Civics, along with Harrison Cooper in his Hyundai i30N.

Also in Extreme TT will be Barry Kellerher’s TA2 Mustang, Myles Jones’ and Charlie Khoury’s modified Civics and Greg Boyle’s rapid Nissan Skyline.

The MJS Electrical Supplies Over 2 Litre Slicks class is home to plenty of familiar names including no less than five members of the Herring family in their Mazda MX5s, Victorian Mini racer Craig Lindsell and the experienced Dylan Thomas (Mitsubishi Evo IX).

The G-Loc Brake Pads Over 2 Litre Treaded category is also rich in talent, including Matthew Kiss, who swaps his Mustang Cup car for a Mitsubishi Evo X, and Chris Sutton, having his first event in a brand-new BMW M2 production car. The Over 2 Litre Class is also home to a couple of more senior drivers in the field, such as 82-year-old Adrian Simmons (VH Commodore) and 77-year-old Chris Stannard, who comes off the back of a superb outright podium finish in the recent Wakefield 300 aboard his Porsche 944.

In the Phoenix Motorsport Under 2 Litre Slicks Class, a pair of Mazda MX5s (Stuart McFadyen and Ben Cathcart) will be joined by Jonathan Ashley’s Mazda 808 and David Bailey’s BMW E36 318i.

The field is rounded out by the Lendrive Finance Under 2 Litre Treaded Class, where the likely front-runner will be Aaron Giuntini’s Honda Civic; other notable entrants are talented BMW E36 racer Rob Boaden and the Pulsars of Bathurst’s John Markwick and Young’s Michael Ricketts.

The Super TT competitors will complete a pair of practice sessions and qualifying on Good Friday, followed by a trio of races on Saturday; Race 1 will be live streamed, Race 2 will be shown on Fox Sports 506/Kayo Sports while Race 3 will also be live on SBS.
